[ mood | perfectly at ease ]

A rather interesting day:
My group of 9 for script analysis gave our presentation for The Glass Menagerie today, and given that we only had a week to prepare, and had a hurricane the day before, I think we did very well (I got to be Regis Philman!!). But a few people both from my group, as well as another's, are considering about talking to the dean about our teacher. Our grade is based on 3 presentations (my group has now done 2), and we haven't actually been given any grades, or critiques yet. It is school policy that we are given our grade before the withdrawl deadline, but that has already passed. So it'll be interesting to see how that will end.

I'm enjoying the costume shop, and would say I'm doing very well. I'm making a "ditty bag", this bag thing made out of muslin, it goes on a hanger, and you can put shoes, and other costume props, etc for each actor. I have to give mine over when I'm done, oh well.

I feel like a new me since this weekend, and it feels great. I love you Trish, so much. Thanks for not loosing faith in me, thanks for not giving up. I love you.

Needed to update [05 Oct 2005|09:37am]
[ mood | sick ]

Hey you guyyyyys!
I woke up a little early today, so I figured I had just enough time to make a much needed update. Classes are freekin awsome! My design class is a lot of work, I have a big project due tomorrow. Mid terms are coming up, which means I'll be switching from working in the scene shop, over to the costume shop where I get to make a gig bag, and a man purse. I got my first bush with welding yesterday where I assisted the guy that was welding. Later I slamed a spining drill gun into my thumb when it sliped, causeing a deep gash in my left hand thumb and some blood, but oh well. Eyes are hurting right now, cuz I think I might have pink eye (ewwww), so I have an appointment at 1 today.

On a much happier note, I came back from a retreat this weekend, and had some much needed Ryan time. I've been working so much latley, that I needed some time to myself and the Man upstairs. I have a group presentation for A Doll's House, and then right after, The Glass Menagerie (sp?). College life is good, the people here are really cool, and there is a group of 7 or so of us that all have the exact same classes, so that's fun. Still, from time to time, I miss all of you, and I miss your warm hugs. Peace out yal!

***and now for a joke***
A kid goes to his dad and asks, "Dad, what are politics?"
His dad replies, " Put it this way; I am the breadwinner of the family so I am capatilism. Your mom is the owner of the money so she is government. The government is the provider for the people so you are the people. Your baby brother will be the future, and the nanny is the working class. Now think about that."

So he went to bed. He was woken by his brother. The baby had pooped in his diaper. He went to tell his parents, but he only found his mom asleep in the bed. He didn't want to wake her, so he went to the nanny. The door was locked. He checked through a hole and saw the dad in bed with the nanny. He went back to bed. The next morning, he went to his dad and said, "Dad i know what you mean now."

"You do? Tell me."

"OK, while capatilism is screwing the working class, the government is sound asleep, while the people are watching the future being pooped on!!!"

the end of a frekin long day [23 Aug 2005|08:28pm]
[ mood | exhausted ]

First class was Stagecraft at 8:30; the class was split in two, half starting in costume, the other in the scene shop. Half way through the semester we'll switch, but for right now, I'm in the scene shop: cool beans. Had a really quick half hour break where I picked up a wrap for breakfast, as well as a free iced tea; free stuff=cool beans. Then Script Analysis, this is probably the class with the most reading, but we're going to be divided into groups, so that will help me mentaly to stay focused on the reading. From there, a group of us all had to hurry to the tech center in 10 min to get to theater design. Thankfully, since every body in theater design is in script, we pushed the start time back, so that we would actually make it over there with traffic and everything. This class scares us the most b/c of all the work, as well as homework that we're going to be doing makeing modles, drawings, etc. After that we had to go back to the main theater for an additional lab that they forgot to put on our schedules. (A lab is like another class that is required for a class that you are already taking. So we have the class "Stagecraft 1", but then we have to come back later for an additional 2 1/2 hour lab.) For a while, we're cleaning up the theater from the mess that is was left in after last year/the summer. I helped clean out the booth, so that was cool. As Eric and I were getting ready to leave from that, we noticed other kids (BA majors, I think) gettting a tour of the scene shop, as well as learning how to use the power saws safely. We poked in and started following one group, and ended up staying for the whole thing b/c it was pretty cool. We now know our way around the shop, and know how to use their big saws: table saw, band saw, chop saw, and radial cutter... really cool. So my day finally ended around 6:50. I ate a huge dinner, which I really needed, and am now kick'n off my shoes and relaxing. I just hope I can get my the rest of my classes this week until I get a chance to shop this weekend; I need a bunch of art supplies, books, etc.

First Day [22 Aug 2005|09:07pm]
[ mood | easy going ]

Well, first day of college theater ended really great, it was only the morning that was rocky. On the internet (where all information is stored for UCF), my schedule still said "location:TBA" for my first class, Stage Lighting. I decided to try the theater, but two other people were there, wondering where it was as well. Found out it was at the Tech Center, just off campus, so got there about 5 or 10 min late, no problem. That class was freken awesome!....(no surprise). So now I had to drive back to campus, park and get to my next class in 30 min. Tried parking in my dorm lot: no dice. Went over to a parking garage, and after about 20 in there, I finally picked somebody that was leaving. Jogged over to Theater Survay, with a pretty funny big guy as the professor. Afterwords, ate lunch, bla, bla, bla. At 4, all the theater students came to this meeting, (said hi to Jersey) where I met all the other kids in the design/tech track. I met up with a few I had seen around, and met a bunch a new people; I think I made a good impression. One other design/tech student (I think a senior) dubbed me as "her frosh", that was cool. Bought one of my books, the other was sold out (poo), and that's about it. Oh, and my roomies are really cool. My actual roommate, Eric (the one that some of you met), is an easy going guy like me and we're meshing fairly well. And one of the suite mates, Mario, is a really funny guy. I'm diggin college.

On another note, swing dancing was really cool you guys. Anytime you are coming, just let me know, and I'm there. Miss you all
-Ryan

My weekend.... WITHOUT INTERNET!!!! [01 Aug 2005|07:35pm]
[ mood | too much sugar, need real food ]

I've been a little behind on things because my internet wasn't working all weekend. I started singing again with the on campus church choir, and it felt really good. The group is rocking, with drums, guitar, bass, piano, and violen. For some of the more spiritual songs, the violen is really awsome. I've been meeting some really cool people in CCM (the on campus catholic ministry), and I know some of them are theater majors. This has been the best part of my college experience so far.
I came home Friday, and had an amazing day with Trish. We took a bike ride down to a park near her house, and held each other in the grass. A very warm and fuzzy day which ended with dinner once again with her family. These are the days when I could come back to WS...hummm. Saturday I went to the UCF gym for the first time, and got PUMPED UP! I know how hard that is for you to imagine, me with all my muscles. "Ryan, how are you going to get MORE pumped up, when you are already sooooo buff?!?!" Well.... maybe it's not exactly like that... but I did you some running, and I made a fool of myself trying to figure out the weight machines. YEAH!!! Sunday was fun with the above singing and fun meeting more people through faith. Really cool. And one more plus, my roomate wasn't here all weekend, so I had the place to myself.
One more week of summer classes, then a two week break, and then the start of Fall term. And since all of you started school today, and have been giving their schedules, I'd figure I'd give mine... except without all the times, and days cuz that's really confusing to me still.

I'm a Blue Converse All-Star

Mellow and laid-back, you're the easy-going type of person. Not one to let too many things phase you, you drift through life ignoring the struggles and giving a slight smile to the good times. Others around you might get annoyed at your lack of passion, but they don't realize that your content to be what you are: you take the good with the bad and never let anything get you down. You're the Carmelo Anthony or Yao Ming of your world, and while you'd definitely prefer a easier, better life, you're not one to dwell on the negative and instead you always at your current state, with a rare glimpse to the future or past.

What color Converse All-Star are you?

I'm Doug!

Doug is an average kid with an above-average imagination. Junior high is no piece of cake for Doug. He's crazy about a girl named Patti Mayonnaise, he's tormented by bully Roger Klotz and he keeps getting himself into messes. But when the going gets rough, Doug's imagination gets going. He transforms himself into Quailman--with a pair of briefs worn over his shorts and a leather belt around his head. No stranger to embarrassment, humiliation or feeling out of place, somehow Doug always manages to land on his feet. (Bio borrowed from Bluffington)

Which of Nickelodeon's Doug characters are you?

Let this be a lesson to think twice before you double check you answers on a test. I had an astronomy test yesterday, and before I turned it in, I went back and changed 3 answers because I wasn't sure when I went back over them again. I got my test back today, and I missed those 3...poo. Could have had an A but I got a C instead. Luckaly, there is some extra credit that will add 5 points to the final grade, so as long as I make a B on the next test, I'll have an A for that class. Whoohoo! Oh well, that's my soap box for today.

This week has been pretty good so far to show me what I think real (as in not summer) college life will be like. Some of the students in my com. class, as well as myself have been asking question/giving input to the discussions, and I can tell that it really helps in the learning process. Let this be a lesson to anyone planning on going to college, etc. ASK QUESTIONS, get involved in the discussions; even if it's a short little comment, story, whatever, you pick up the stuff a lot better this way, and you won't have to study *as* hard. I ventured out into some of the unknown campus on my bike, and it's really beautiful, and I'm liking it. And if you look around and keep your ears pealed, you can always find free food. There is some event tonight that happens like once a month where they have a party, food, and fun stuff like that; I'll let you know how that goes tonight. Stay cool, and yah….. stuff…..

[ mood | blank ]

Hello from college, so far pretty good. Last Wed I had a test in Astronomy and I got a 90 on, whoo-hooo! On the other hand, I had a Comunications test today, and I didn't feel very confident on it. I didn't study for it as much for the astro, partly because astro interestes me a whole lot more (Trish can testify to this). That's probably the bigest thing I miss the most, you guys. My roommate isn't very social, and there really isn't anybody to talk to over the summer. When the fall starts up, I'll have all my theatre classes so I can't wait to meet the crazy people there. I stopped by the theatre one day as they were getting ready for The Wizard of Oz, and I talked to one person that's a sophmore in the BFA tech, so that was pretty cool. I usually spend my time studying, in class, or playing on the computer. I miss having my Trish, but I'm getting by. If anybody wants to vist, that'd be cool; just call or email before, to tell me when your going to swing by so I'll be sure to be in my dorm and not somewhere else like the library.
Love you all,
Ryan
